Movie Review-The Dark Knight

One word....wow

I usually don't have a lot to say about movies. It's hard to believe that a movie is THAT good and everyone believes it. I don't know of anyone that has anything bad to say about The Dark Knight. I was in New York when it came out so I missed my standard midnight movie. I should've done it, but in the city that never sleeps I figured I had plenty of time. So on Sunday(opening weekend), I tried to catch an early evening show. Boy was I wrong!! The line was was down the block! I guess it didnt help that I went to Times Square so of COURSE it would be packed. On Sunday though?? Yeah...42nd street on a Sunday was crazy as is.....(but that's another blog). So I went to Cold Stone Creamery, walked around a bit to walk it off, people watched for awhile and made my way home.
I didn't get to see The Dark Knight until the following weekend on a Sunday in the early evening in Columbus, Ohio. Still the movie was stacked. Aight, so the scene is set.

Hard to say that the allure around Heath Ledger and his last movie wasn't a big draw. But I will say that it was quickly melted away by his acting as the Joker. With a few ties to the first Batman Begins, this story is entirely new. Crime is coming to an end with Batman on the streets. The mob boss' need a way to get rid of him. In comes the Joker, who says that pay him and he'll take care of the Batman for half of the mob bosses total earnings. They agree and The Joker goes on a chaotic mayhem throughout the city with some notable characters dying throughout the film. That always makes for good cinema, these subtle twists here and there.

Of course there left room for another one and I havent heard anything just quite yet but I'm sure thee will be. This brand of Dark Knight, will defiitely keep people coming back. Now although we liked the special effects and style and charisma of Spiderman and his 3 movies so far, I definitely look forward to another Batman.

Now I did notice that the movie wasnt as dark(physical lighting and scenes) as previous ones and less likely to have weird scenes. That's okay to me because that means they removed the cartoon goofyness that we've seen in past movies. I like the use of special effects especially the introduction of the motorcycle. The fight scene with the Joker was pretty good to me but I really liked the bike. One of the funniest scenes in the movie was the Joker in the nurses outfit talking to TwoFace. I especially like the scene in the end where the hospital didn't quite blow up and then he hit the remote again etc.

I did have a few hangups. Although minor, it kind of got to me later on. I guess I actually got tired of hearing Batmans voice towards the end. He seemed like he was overdoing it....
Two Face also seemed like he was overacting to me, but I guess with half a face, what do you expect. I also couldnt quite get past the fact that he put his suit BACK on. Wasnt it burned up?

Best movie of the summer...yep. End of discussion..

Recharging....update

So during my time here I have done almost everything on my "to do" list. Of course the drive to the city was as expected. Fast and Furious. Shout out to the 91 Acura Legend and everyone that keeps her in tip top shape. Even in the city I'm having her worked on...(yeah I dont play with it!)
I made my way to Green Acres to buy me a sweet suit...(I'll post pictures on my facebook page I guess) and it hasnt changed at all. Add a few new stores here and there but its all still the same to me. I did come out with a new outfit as I was attending a function with my parents and had to look the part.
I did hit 42nd street and when I tell you that its jumpin on a SUNDAY night, its crazy. No rhyme or reason, just happening town USA. I thought I was gonna see Batman, but I will have to wait until I get to good ol' Columbus. Theres just too much to do, plus lines are ridiculous here. I got my beef patty and coco bread, I got to hang with friends and family and I got to recharge. Pretty soon, I will be back on the road heading back to Columbus ready to share my energy with the 6.1.4. Did I mention I'll be back in NYC in a few weeks again...?
Gotta love the place...

Recharging....

So I'm about to make my usual trip to New York. Although I go pretty regularly, I typically take a long trip in the summer to recharge. As a deejay, this is the birth of hip hop music and a lot of things that make me who I am. This year is no different although the trip has been broken up. Totally my fault too, just cause of scheduling. However, there are a few things that I have to do when I'm in New York...

Ride public transportation, in particular the train.
Riding the train is so vital to me. I rode the bus and the train all my formative years growing up, but riding the train just shows how much diversity this city has. It's amazing how many races, cultures and personalities all exist in one train car, let alone 8.

Listen to the radio
As a deejay its important that I try and keep my ear to the street and BREAK NEW RECORDS!! Even with the internet and instant access to music, its important to try and hear what's playing. I scan the radio stations trying to hear what's hot and what's not. I also listen to the mixshow deejays and see what they're doing so I can take it back to good ol' Columbus! My shows are a direct reflection of that(they call me the peoples champ for a reason). The morning shows in New York are also a lot better. More personalities make for a fun time switching stations during the day especially the morning. There is a certain amount of shock value that I don't always like but in general I love listening to the radio.

Walk on Jamaica Ave(Queens NY).
I'm representing putting Queens on the map, has been my motto for awhile now, so its only right that I walk the streets that showed me love all through high school. My dance skills, my mixtapes, my gold caps, my gear(most of it) all came from up and down Jamaica Ave and the infamous Coliseum Mall where I always try and get my Otis Spunkmeyer cookies!! It's nothing to get in a long line outside for a beef patty and coco bread with a sea moss, all while watching a reggae dance dvd. It's nothing to go shoe shopping and hitting up the stores looking for the one pair that NO other store has. I've spent many a day trying to get a fitted hat, some uptowns(Air Force Ones) and a shirt for the low...

Visit Green Acres Mall
Although its changed(new stores etc), its good to get to some higher end stores and see what trends are out there. Although I'm a full blown adult, I like to be somewhat fashionable and trendy. Besides, they have this kiosk there that sells all the hot karate flicks! Im talking the Jon Wu, flying in the air Wu Tang joints which I try to keep up with....

Visit friends and family
This is typically the main reason I go home. Recharge with the energy of my family. There isn't a strong Carribean/West Indian presence in Columbus Ohio, outside of my few friends that I keep in my circle so coming back to New York is bringing me closer to who I truly am. Having my mom cook for me and hanging out with my dad and occasionally my sister(if she's around) is always good. Seeing my cousins, taking my kids to see their cousins is a beautiful thing. The sounds, smells and sights of home take me to a level that I can't reach here in Ohio. My friends continue to grow and we are getting into the real world more. Hard to imagine that we've been in each other lives over 15 years(these are my high school friends I'm talking about) so it warms my heart to get that energy.

Other options
Hit up a movie, goto a club, goto 42nd street, get something to eat, goto a party are all things that I try to do when I come to the city but no guarantees. I make sure I hit up my girl and goto BBQ's(sticky wings are important to me now, lol). After that, its chill hard to come back to Columbus and give up that energy to share with the rest of Columbus, hence Rich NYCe the guy from NY is back!!!

Movie Review-Wanted

Aight, so Im a movie junkie. Call it an escape from reality or my secret passion or whatever you want to call it, I dig going to the movies. It doesnt matter who I go with(well yeah it does) and I don't go see EVERYTHING so maybe I'm not a junkie but I do enjoy a good flick. So these last couple of weeks I have been pretty busy checking out some movies and I want to voice my opinion. Not sure whether it will sway you to go see it or not but I gotta get it off my chest, lol.

I liked WANTED with Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. Nothing like a good shoot em up flick with crazy special effects and making the impossible seem possible. That's the sign of a good movie to me. A good thrill ride. I didn't think it was gonna be as gory(seeing the bullets go though the head and the extra blood etc) but I'm not surprised.
I used to be into the storylines a lot more and it was okay. A guy, Wesley Gibson (played by James McAvoy) seemingly in a deadend job living a boring life finds out his dad is some super assassin who recently died. It could happen to anyone right? He quickly learns he has the skills like his dad(Angelina Jolie plays Fox and shares this with him), then goes through super assassin boot camp in order to find his dad's killer. The bootcamp is some secret society of assassins called The Fraternity and has been around for centuries preserving the order of society by kiling folk sent to them by some elaborate secret code thread. The leader of he Fraternity is named Sloan(Morgan Freeman). No one knows where the orders come from but its called by "fate". Wesley does a couple of jobs to get prepared to hunt his dad's killer down and eventually finds him and kills him. Here's the twist though. The man he was hunting down WAS his dad and it was all a lie set up by Sloan. So of course he feels betrayed and needs to get EVERYBODY back. And the rest as you can imagine it is history.
Without getting into too much details, its worth checking out if you like action. I can't really rank it just quite yet but its behind Ironman and The Hulk to me but above Hancock. Still have a few more flicks this summer and I'll let you know but then again, you be the judge...
